Once you've done some reading about cohousing and decided it may be for you, you're going to want to find like-minded folk to help make it happen. As this site develops, we'll offer more materials here for your use - particularly on the thorny aspects of explaining to officialdom what cohousing is and why they might like it.

MHOS - a Financial Model for Cohousing

A very successful study day looking at the Mutual Home Ownership (MHOS) model (the model adopted by LILAC) was held on 30 September. This is an approach to financing housing which takes as its starting point the idea that housing is something to use rather than a capital investment. It supports the development of affordable housing and might appeal to anyone from an emerging group that has not yet decided the financial model to use and is trying to create permanent affordability.

We currently have a 2 bed property for sale. Part of a terrace of cottages that were previously a cow byre (hence the name!) this home comprises an open plan kitchen and living/dining area with a bathroom and bedroom downstairs and another bedroom and small mezzanine area upstairs. The latter has previously been used as office space.

NEW Selkirk Cohousing Group

Selkirk Co-housing initiative has been kicked into action by a terrific site coming onto the market in early April 2011 at a very unexpectedly affordable price. Having potential land first is a somewhat unusual way round for developing a cohousing project, but the scarcity of suitable sites has limited our enthusiasm until now.

Programme of events at Threshold Centre for 2011

Unless otherwise stated, the cost of weekend courses (from 7pm Friday to Sunday pm) is £140 including lunch, tea/coffee; evening meals. Accommodation at the Threshold Centre/local B&B is £25/35 per night. A non-returnable deposit of £20 is requested to book a place on a course and £20 deposit for B&B. Concessions may be available, so please apply in writing.
