Prospect Co-housing (Devon) New Members Meeting Report

The Prospect new members meeting which took place on 12 December was successful in that we had 16 adults plus 3 young children at the meeting including 12 potential new members. This was about the right number, as anymore would have been too chaotic. The meeting was held at the Beech Hill Community near Morchard Bishop. This was ideal in that we had a large room with a comfortable lived-in ambience and a good kitchen where we could prepare meals and bond by sharing the washing up. A talk by two members of the Beech Hill co-op on Sunday also gave us some good insights into the strengths and pitfalls of an intentional community.

The meeting was a ‘getting to know each other’ exercise in which we explored what we wanted from a co-housing community and began to define what sort of community we wanted and why we wanted it. Preliminary feedback indicates that a good number of those present are interested enough to come to further meetings.

The discussions will continue on our website during the next few weeks and anybody who has already been to a Prospect meeting will be encouraged to take part.

The next meeting for potential new members will take place on Saturday 23 January hopefully with an informal get together on the Sunday to get to know each other better. This second day will be particularly for those coming a long distance and staying overnight but any others who have already been to one of our meetings are also welcome. The venue is still to be decided but will be near Exeter.

If you are interested in coming to our next or a subsequent meeting, please get in touch with Frances 01243 430314 or Sally 01392 255658 or by fran...@prospectcohousing.org.uk.
